About San Lorenzo
It all started in 1890, when Francesco D’Amico purchased 5 acres of land in the medieval village of Castilenti in northern Abruzzo, in celebration of the birth of his first child. At a young age, that child, Giuseppe, emigrated to America to work in the coal mines. After many years of hard work and some success, he returned to Abruzzo looking to fulfill a dream and bring new life to his native town. In 1940, on August 10th, the night of the Feast of San Lorenzo (“The Night of the Shooting Stars”), Giuseppe’s dream became a reality when he purchased 198 acres from Duke Caracciolo. It was Giuseppe’s daughter and son-in-law, Adina and Guido, who transformed their father’s agricultural business into a winery. Many generations later and the winery has grown to 370 acres. It has been recognized internationally by Decanter World Wine Awards, Gambero Rosso, Jancis Robinson, Wine Spectator, Challenge International du Vin, and Mundus Vini. They focus on bio-sustainability and preserving the native grape varietals of the area. Photos and bio taken from www.sanlorenzovini.com.
