About Our Hosts: Wines that speak of the land, the sun, and generations of passion
Diletta Tonello and Riccardo Baldi, the children of winemakers, regions apart, with the same mission: to express the unique terroir of their land through native grapes, once forgotten or dismissed, but receiving a revitalization thanks to these youthful, energetic, and passionate winemakers. Garganega and Durella grapes are the focus at Cantina Tonello, nestled in the Lessini Mountains, between the provinces of Vicenza and Verona. Further south, Verdicchio at La Staffa, sitting atop the small hilltop town of Staffolo, not far from the Adriatic sea, in the nearly untraveled region of Le Marche (and not far from Jesi and Ancona – where Lydia’s paternal grandparents emigrated from). Each winemaker moves between tradition and dedication; tradition in the selection of the native varietals grown and dedication in winemaking, the idea which is carried out using organic farming practices, little to no oak ageing, and plenty of enthusiasm resulting in approachable yet age-worthy sparkling and white wines that command the attention of wine critics at home and abroad.
Diletta and Riccardo are arguably making some of the most thrilling white wines in all of Italy, and we are honored and excited to present them and their wines to you for the first time.
